This video was shot as a public service announcement, but it represents a real issue that is happening all over the world today. When a man is rushed into the emergency room suffering from a heart attack at the mere age of 32, the doctor asks how that happens. What follows is a series of flashbacks throughout the man's life that depict him consuming large quantities of unhealthy foods. Even when the man was a baby, his mother fed him french fries to get him to stop fussing. His exposure to unhealthy foods became engrained in his lifestyle, causing him to weigh 300 pounds at the age of 32, which is when he suffered his first heart attack.

According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), "More than one-third (34.9% or 78.6 million) of U.S. adults are obese. Obesity-related conditions include heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes and certain types of cancer, some of the leading causes of preventable death." The CDC also reports, "The estimated annual medical cost of obesity in the U.S. was $147 billion in 2008 U.S. dollars; the medical costs for people who are obese were $1,429 higher than those of normal weight."

Countless Americans spend exorbitant amounts of money on weight loss plans and diets every year. I know plenty of people who have fitness-related New Year's resolutions and even more people who have struggled with the ups and downs of weight gain. Losing weight is not an easy task, but there are plenty of resources that give us information about effective ways to start eating and living healthy. It's tempting to grab that chocolate milkshake or sink our teeth into a juicy burger, but it's important to keep in mind the health effects that arise from poor eating habits.

SF Globe knows the pleasures of eating junk food all too well, but we also think it's important to share content that reminds us about the dangers of over-indulging. Watch the video and tell us what you think in the comments below!
