Animal Aid Unlimited based in India is doing their part to help the stray dog population. Not only is there a need to reduce the number of strays on the street, but many are living in terrible situations. The dog in the video below was found starving to death and suffering from one of the worst cases of mange we have seen. Seeing him in this state is disturbing, but his quick transformation under the loving hands of the rescue workers at Animal Aid Unlimited is incredible.
From his appearance, it seems like he is suffering from a sarcoptic mange, or canine scabies. It is highly contagious, and results in intense itching. An infected animal can get skin infections, hair loss and crusting resulting from biting and scratching at themselves. As terrible as it can be to suffer, it doesn't take much to heal. Topical medication applied with love and care can change the lives of any animal infected with mange.
WARNING: Some may find his initial condition difficult to view. If you find that you cannot bear to see him in such need, skip ahead to 2:55 to see his wonderful recovery.
