This couple had trouble conceiving and finally decided to adopt. This video follows them as they go to see their adopted newborn baby for the very first time. Though this baby isn't their biological child, if this first meeting is any indication, he is going to grow up with an amazingly wonderful life.
Their story began on Tuesday, March 22 when they flew from Austin to Fresno, California and then drove another 30 miles to a small town called Madera. On their blog, the couple described the day beautifully, recalling how the nurses were wonderful to them and very considerate towards this meaningful moment. Before they held their son in their hands, they still had the worry that everything could simply fall apart.
Though I have not experienced such a heartbreak myself, I have friends who had been trying very hard to adopt a baby of their own. After lots of time and money, the baby had arrived and they flew all the way to meet the child. Instead of being ushered in, they were told to wait, and wait, and wait. In the end, they were told the birth mother had changed her mind, and their hearts were broken.
Though this happens to couples time and again, the couple in this family was fortunate as this was not how their story ended. They were ushered into a room where their baby boy waited and it was love at first sight. Whereas some might be angered by their inability to have kids, and the years it can take to finally get a baby, this couple saw it all as meant to be. To them, everything in the last 9 years had to go exactly as they had, the good moments and the bad, for them to hold this baby in their arms. While looking down at his son for the first time, the only thing dad was able to get past the lump in his throat was: "Hello, son. I'm your dad and this is your mom. We've waited so long to finally meet you."
They named their son Jacob Dylan - his first name after the Old Testament and his middle name simply because they liked it. Their time at the hospital was meaningful, but seemed to fly by in a blur. It wasn't long before they were bringing their new baby home and starting a life together. The story is emotional to read and even more touching to watch. When you see the looks in the eyes of these new parents, it is near-impossible to not tear up yourself. Watch the video to witness a family being created.
