Nick Magnotti was 27 years old when his wife recorded this message. He was a new father at the time, and he passed away just three months after recording it.

His cancer started in his appendix, but it spread quickly from there. He tried many treatments, but at the time of the recording he had reached a point where they weren't working. He made the choice to live the rest of his life without pain, which was tough considering that the medication might have been about to keep him "going" for a bit longer. I can't imagine making such a difficult decision.
