When Sammi the springer spaniel was eight, doctors found a degenerative change in his neck that would require surgery. Sammi's health began to decline, and he suddenly became quadrapalegic. Veterinarians feared that he would remain paralyzed for the rest of his life, but they hadn't completely ruled out the possibility of him recovering.
Unwilling to give up on their beloved dog, Sammi's family brought him to California Animal Rehabilitation (CARE) in Santa Monica, where Sammi underwent daily comprehensive rehabilitation for three months. Both veterinarians and physical therapists worked with Sammi to get him moving again. Miraculously, Sammi made the recovery that his family had been hoping for.
In the video below, Sammi's owner Janie has been called in to CARE to see her pup. She has no idea what's about to happen, so she's a little confused when she walks in the door of CARE and finds everyone hiding out of view. The staff is giddy with excitement as they encourage Sammi to show Janie just how far he has come, and Janie can't help but fall to her knees as she sees Sammi happily walk over to her.
This moment between Janie and Sammi is absolutely beautiful! I couldn't help but tear up in seeing Janie's joy while watching Sammi overcome such terrible odds.
