The annual Kennedy Center Honors gala is an event that honors individuals who've devoted their life's work to the performing arts and have had a considerable impact in shaping American culture. The 1996 Kennedy Center Honors was a memorable night filled with tears, standing ovations, and beautiful tributes to artists whose names have gone down in history.

Among the five people honored at the 1996 gala was legendary singer/songwriter Johnny Cash. Cash sat in the audience along with hundreds of other distinguished guests, President Clinton included, and watched on as performing artists took the stage to honor him by singing his songs. The segment from the below video begins with Cash's daughter Rosanne singing her father's signature song "I Walk The Line." As if that isn't enough to make the crowd emotional, Cash is further honored when the other performing artists join Rosanne on stage and sing the classic hymn "I'll Fly Away."
