This young girl was riding the elevator, just minding her own business. When the doors opened, a stranger grabbed her from behind and closed the door. What proceeds to happen is crazy!

The way this skilled young lady was able to defend herself was incredible. Yet it's safe to assume not all people have the same amount of training as her. That's why we decided to do a little research into the matter and find out what women should do if they find themselves in a similar situation.

According to PowerToChange.com there are a number of different ways women can defend themselves. One of the first things you can do is be aware. Stay vigilant of your surroundings and the people nearby. This sort of attention will only help you act instinctually, should an attacker try to assault you. Also, remember to trust your gut - if you feel something sketchy in the air, listen to your instincts and remove yourself from that situation.

If available, one should try to enroll in a self-defense course. When selecting one, try to steer clear of martial arts studios. These places specialize in very intricate maneuvers that don't really help a person out during an actual attack. Other facilities offer up easier, more simplistic lessons that'll prepare you for a more realistic situation. And remember, if you do find yourself in the throes of an attacker, you can fight back. Normally, a person's brain has been conditioned to not harm another, but this is an instance wherein you are more than allowed to defend yourself physically.

Also, if you can, try to obtain some pepper spray. Sometimes even the threat of this painful concoction is enough to deter an attacker. Learn how to properly use the device first before blindly relying on it in a time of need.

These are just a few quick tips to get the ball rolling, but there are many other ways women can defend themselves. Do you have any in mind that you would like to share? Please feel free to leave your thoughts and feelings on the matter in the comment section below.
